A fun job for part timers, hell for managers
Pros
- Working with regular customers can be a pleasure. - Home improvement projects can actually be a lot of fun to learn and talk about.
Cons
- Not enough payroll is allocated to maintain a proper sales staff while completing constant merchandising projects. - Company culture... all managers are told explicitly that they are expendable. During the recession, managers' jobs were held over their heads, and jobs were threatened every time a customer complained. - Schedules are demanding and offer no flexibility. I missed multiple weddings and funerals while I worked there. When you ask if you could possibly get time off for events like that, it's not granted and you're automatically put on store managements sh*tlist. - No opportunity to advance beyond Assistant Department Manager without relocating out-of-state. Literally a requirement, no exceptions. - I honestly could write a book about how much I hated this place. Spare yourself and stay away from their management program.
