Pros

The pay is good Sense of achievement Promotion comes to those who work hard...IN TIME Weekend Pay Meet some cool people

Cons

High School Drama(mostly by the HR and GM'S) Favoritism Long Hours EX:one day you work 10a-10p then the next you have to work 5a-5p then 8a-10p Store Managers-very disrespectful talk down to people under them(ive worked at 3 stores it's happened at all of them) They hire by "looks" and not skills No life No leadership by dept mgrs. GM's refuse to defend/backup dept. mgrs (unless you're their favorite) Piece of advice...stay away from menards..the place will drain you for all your worth. Ruin your life in more way than one. making you work 60hrs a week being disrespected day after day. the products they sell are horrible and most arent even made in america..the "made in america" sale they run is a scam..what it is...is a small small part of the product is made in america lets say 5% and 95% is made in china..they'll say 100% made in america....its...BS

Pros

-Decent scheduling, management is very conscious of other conflicts, as long as you communicate with them. -Steady pay increases, and the benefits are among the best you can get for being a retail employee. -Plenty of opportunity to move up, if you don't mind relocating a few times. GM's can make 6-figures. -The company is solid, and has a good plan for growth. -Managers have a lot of product knowledge, and the store has a good "open-door" policy. Questions and concerns are always welcome. -It seems like you get a gift for every holiday, from Flag Day to Christmas. Gifts are useful and sturdy items, such as clothing, pizza cutters, mouse pads, collectibles.

Cons

-You have to purchase your vest/apron, tape measure, box cutter and holster, and they have to be merchandise sold at Menards, so you can't just bring a tape measure you already have at home. -I wouldn't want to do this full time; full-timers are stretched pretty thin, and management has to work crazy hours. -They expect you to think Menards is the greatest place on earth. -It's customer service. A lot of cranky "guests." -Terrible training, but as long as you can read the product's label faster than the customer can, you will be fine. -Bizarre discount program, where your purchases are automatically withdrawn from your paycheck. You can't get your discount if you pay with cash or credit.

A great part-time job

Pros

Casual dress code, consistent wage increases, exquisite training program and opportunities for advancement, excellent management team (at least at my store.)

Cons

Very low starting wage for part-timers. Below industry pay for full-timers, too. Full-time and management must be available ridiculous hours, but hey, it is retail. Not enough supervision (most people wouldn't complain about this, but I see the laziest and most incompetent people able to keep their job for far too long without correction.)
