Pros

Pay is fairly good, but you definitely need to put in a lot of hours for it. Having a profit sharing program is amazing, and it definitely benefits the people who put in time with the company. The more years you work over 1,000 hours, the higher your profit sharing percentage is.

Cons

Retail in general these days is awful. Speaking in generalities, customers treat you like garbage, have little to no patience, expect everything for nothing, are extremely rude and believe they know more than you do constantly. Again, with retail the hours are very inconsistent. For instance, you work 12 hour days sometimes until 10 pm, only to work at 6:30 am the next day. Average for a manager is about 46-50 hours per week...minimum. The constant threat of visits from the corporate office, secret shops, and being caught by cameras is nerve racking.

Pros

Pay is good for what is asked. If you have good people skills, a positive attitude, and some common sense you can make 80-145k a year within 4-8 years if you are aggressive in trying to promote. Menards ALWAYS promotes from within which really gives you a good chance to stand out among the crowd and make a name for your self. I did and It went well for me. Every day is something new. Tons of training.

Cons

Very inconsistent hours. Not uncommon to work 12-15 hour shifts. Have to work every other weekend. Questionable business decisions within the company. Really lame policies. No sick days. Calling in sick or being late requires a doctors note or its a write up. No questions. The managers at our store never go out of there way to tell someone they did something good. If you went way out of your way to help others and really helped out beyond your expectations they will simply tell you what else you should have done while you were at it.
