Pros

good pay with weekend bonuses

Cons

the training is a joke just a worksheet with questions you'd have no way of knowing the answers to then a scavenger hunt neither of which I was able to finish. They said they'd work around/ with your schedule but they dont, if your not available on the time they put you down for they just cut your hours.

Pros

Get a gift for every holiday mailed to you, $2.50 for working weekends, easy to get promoted. 10% discount (but purchases have to come out of your check unlike the rest of the retail industry), 75% or less of the time every other weekend off, profit sharing (IPS check) yearly, holiday bonus, casual dress code

Cons

2nd assistants had to work 5 days Christmas week while ALL other managers in store only had to work 4 days. Department manager pay rates about the same as working as in management for a dollar store. They terminate associates unjustly even when they have not policy violation. GM is inconsistent, unprofessional with staff, and plays favorites in store. Too quick to demote people. They do not care about employees only the sale / profits and customers are encouraged to treat the employees poorly by allowing the customers to get someone fired, demoted when they were courteous and following standard/corporate procedures. Worst vacation package in the retail industry. Poor corporate culture, especially in corporate HR, to allow this store, this GM, and this company to be behind the industry standards and norm for work/life balance, poor benefits, and poor pay. Can't take a full week off without a major hassle (if allowed) to get both the weekend before and after vacation off. You are required in management to relocate to move up. Fines out of check weekly for not making unrealistic payroll goals (why move up to next level when fines increase and only 25 cents an hour more, will end up making less). Plan on working 50 hours a week or more consistently, working MANY weeks of 6 + days a week, and not getting uninterrupted lunch breaks (or any breaks) like cashiers, gate guards, and all other floor workers get.

Pros

Pay can be good, especially with profit sharing (+17% of yearly income after 6 years) Locations all over, can transfer if you want Little oversight, if you are competent you are a hero Room to grow if you stick it out, brown nose, bleed Menards. Customers tend to be big fans of your store Paid by the hour, so you don't get screwed working more for the same pay If you can fling BS, you will fit right in Less top heavy than most companies, can impress people in the right places more easily. Holiday discount, holidays are closed.

Cons

Long hours are mandatory (50 hrs per week), as is travel. Management seems to never leave, heard of 80 hr weeks! New hires treated like crap, no benefits until after 180 days, no vacation first year or paid holidays, have to sign non compete that lasts 2 years and is effective for 100 mile radius, unfriendly in certain areas. Questionable morals, legally shady owner and company. Lots of people don't do any work, hard to get straight answers, incompetence is tolerated. Have to buy own everything, constantly reminded that company is cheap, even though John Menard is a billionaire. Training is worthless, you will learn almost nothing
