Pros

Making new things that haven't been done before is always exciting.

Cons

Living in a constant state of fear is never exciting. Don't get mad when your "covid firings" are revealed as the long-standing business plan. This company is just another capitalist machine, not unlike any other company out there. You spend your days executing the ideas of five under-qualified people who don't even know your name.

Pros

New Mexico itself is a magical place to live! The influx of major investment sprung a creative gold rush to Santa Fe with tons amazing and talented individuals pooling into the company (and plenty of others who are amazing were already here!) The work is challenging and very unique when taken seriously. Some of the companies ideas are truly innovative in theory.

Cons

It was a bit of a trap situation. It’s an abusive and disorganized environment loaded with uncertainty. It’s similar to many other entertainment industries that bite off much more than they can chew and roll off the load onto its own employees. Teams try hard but it feels like a hopeless and paranoid work environment. The sad part is if the company was ever able to focus on doing one project and doing it right, it would be amazing, however greed and the cash grabby nature of whomever saddled them up with 4 projects at once, made that impossible. “Doing it right” is also a relative term here. New workflows are often proposed by the staff that can help, but there’s no unification and the people you’ll work with at the top care much less about forging a new path than advertised. The company is now lead by a glorified republican, ex-Disney, and a finance guy. What happened Meow Wolf?

Pros

There are no pros for working at this company unless you are hired to work as a C-Level Executive for an over-the-top 6-figure salary. They have no soul and are in it for the hype.

Cons

-Toxic work environment full of public bullying, shaming, harassment, and discrimination. It’s like high school on steroids. -Increasing removal of full-time positions so that part-time is the only option. They do this because they do not want to pay benefits to employees. Then, they complain about a staffing shortage. The company seeks to hire third-party for instances where there are shortages due to illness, protests, etc. -Hours are cut to 5-10/week during “slow seasons” causing most employees to experience financial/housing/food crises. -A hefty amount of employees at various Meow Wolf locations are experiencing homelessness and live out of their car while the company continues to create 6-figure salaried positions that they mostly fill with those who worked for Disney. -Alarming turnover rate due to the company’s corrupt nature. -Artists lose the rights to their art once they sign a contract with Meow Wolf. Meow Wolf will profit off of them through cheap merchandising and marketing schemes, then block their right to sue due to “the fine print.” -Employees have sexually harassed staff and guests with no disciplinary action or termination. They remain employed despite evidence that was dismissed and ignored. -The company bullies artists and employees to the point of mental health crises and suicide. -Employees have been witnessed using drugs/alcohol and having sexual relations while on the clock and have been protected with no disciplinary action. -The company blocks the Union from participating in company/employee relations and continues to violate their contract with them. The CWA is aware of this. -No raises and low wages despite it being included in the contract after the Union was ratified. Only a few locations officially have a Union and it took years to finally take effect. -Unoriginal ideas, concepts, values, and beliefs stolen from conversations with hourly employees with no credit whatsoever. -Hostile guests who threaten the safety of employees for being turned away for drug and weapon possession. -Underage and general intoxication that management turns a blind eye to due to not wanting complaints against the company and staffing shortages. -Intoxication and drug use is acceptable despite disrespectful and concerning behavior exhibited by guests/artists under the influence. -Security is supposed to be certified in CPR/AED/First-Aid and those classes never happen due to high turnover rate among other administrative issues by management. Only a few employees are officially certified in that area and it can be emotionally taxing for certain staff to have to distribute Narcan to guests who did not test their drugs for safe consumption. -Physical assaults on staff due to ejections for policy violations. -Frequent wrecks near the interstate exits after events due to guests under the influence of hard drugs, psychedelics, and/or alcohol. -Policies constantly change on how to approach guests who were witnessed using drugs/drinking on property prior to entry. They expect employees to turn a blind eye to it and management allows them entry despite witnessing it and reporting it because they do not want bad ratings/reviews. -Racism, sexism, and general discrimination towards certain employees and artists. -Disgusting “cancel culture” mindset towards anyone who holds a different viewpoint from the general group think. -Building code violations, such as faulty HVAC, that the Facilities Director tries/has tried to cover up. -Creativity is stifled, ideas are stolen with no credit, and censorship is ongoing. -It is toxic. RIP to those who lost their lives in relation to their experiences with this company. -They will likely lose their B Corp status in the near future.
