Pros

As an admissions counselor you get to travel and talk about the school. You also learn skills such as sales, budget, etc. Had a good time doing this but it is not something to do forever. You also get a lot of freedom in the office.

Cons

Lack of upward mobility Low pay work weekends dealing with 16-18 year old prospective students can get annoying lack of professional development

Pretty good private institution.

Pros

The faculty and staff get along well.

Cons

Very limited upward mobility because departments are very small. Moving up probably means moving outside of the institution. Additionally, the salaries are super low. I have a PhD and have been working there 7 years receiving EXCELLENT performance evaluations and I have yet to make $40k but the management has no problem asking you to serve on numerous advisory boards and volunteer for campus-wide events held after 5pm and on weekends.

Pros

I have great flexibility when I work the 20 hours per week. I work with great colleagues. The campus is beautiful and well landscaped. Being primarily a post grad campus, the students are serious about their studies, so they are wonderful to work with. The administration of the entire Mercer University seems to minimize the importance of the non academic departments on the Atlanta campus

Cons

The low hourly pay is a definite drawback. The job posting requires much more than the listing of the required high school diploma. The opportunity for promotion is nil, and the advancement in pay has been only pennies an hour over the 6 years that I've been employed.
