      Good compensation, bright people, and a good place to learn

      Management is constantly revising their drug discovery strategy and then wondering why the pipeline isn't fuller.

      Would not recommend Pharma Sales at Merck

      Pros

      Merck offers a very competitive salary and competition package. I had the opportunity to work for several excellent Managers. Merck has some premier products and an excellent image in the pharmaceutical industry.

      Cons

      Currently in flux after the merger of Merck and Schering Plough. I expect that more job cuts will occur in 2010 to meet the new job model. Speaking of which, they continue to figure out what sales model to follow. The newest model they have still needs tweaked in my opinion. Pharmaceutical sales process/strategy is very outdated across the industry. Professional development is not stressed and unless you are willing to spend time at corporate, there is very little chance for advancement.
