Pros

Forced to learn just about everything on your own, makes you more of a valuable asset to the College and future employers. More responsibilities than is expected of your position, establishes an environment for constant learning. The employees (entry-level) make it worth staying at the institution, bonds are formed from the frustrations all employees endure while working there.

Cons

No support from upper management, no acknowledgment from employer, no room for growth unless it is convenient for the college.Transferring to a different department is nearly impossible if you are great at your current position unless of course it is convenient for the college (they don't tell you this but instead encourage you to apply to other positions so that you feel like you have an opportunity for change). Overtime is non-existent, but they still ask you to work.... work for comp. time (the recently changed the name to "flex-time". Good luck actually being able to use that "flex-time"! You'' also be asked to "help" your boss on projects which is fine... however you begin to realize that "help" means they don't know how to do what is asked of them from upper management. The other aspect that weighs in as a huge negative, they ask you to train new hires... but don't see the need to promote you or pay you for a responsibility that shouldn't be yours... if you want a good laugh.... the turn over rate is so high that you may be trained by someone who has only been here for four months, six months... etc.. aside from all of the above comments.... great school to work for....

Pros

Meeting people / networking and learning the run around of higher ed is always a great thing and of course tuition remission which you still have to pay into anyway how ever thats it.

Cons

There is no organization here at Mercy College. Especially for the ones lower end of the totem poll. Who end up being the ones who do most of the work for the college to function. They need to pay their staff more for what they ask them to do. It's equivalent to minimum wage. Absurd. Zero organization and other departments start blaming other departments for things not getting done properly which then leads to everyone stressing out and taking it out upon one another. Everything has become just a cluster of nonsense. Everyone is miserable. And not friendly what so ever!
