Field Paramedic

Pros

Mercy is a decent place to work with a progressive medical director and excellent protocols. Co-workers are typically excellent as well. Decent equipment for a private service for the most part, although if you work in an area without a tax subsidy you can expect to use worn-out monitors without automatic B/P, etc. Best EMS service in South/Central Missouri, you won't find better unless looking in St. Louis area.

Cons

Ideas to improve procedures and care are not well received from field staff by the operations supervisors/field supervisors/regional managers, although the medical director is open to improvements. Redundant and obsolete double or triple documentation is required if working in the rural departments. Until you learn to navigate the bureaucracy you can forget having a positive effect on the service as a whole.

Pros

Decent pay, awesome benefits, respectable company, good human resource team. One of the best jobs I've ever worked. Would definitely recommend.

Cons

Poor departmental communication, need to be decent at playing politics in a smaller setting- just the normal job struggles that you find anywhere else.
