Pros

The selection process finds good candidates that are passionate about healthcare. The providers and staff work hard to care for patients. There are many “pickles” that shine and go above and beyond. Lastly healthcare is a mess right now, Mercy is a hospital that still has its doors open.

Cons

I have worked at Mercy for 8 years. When I needed a change I found a new position within the same Mercy community and felt like I found my calling in nursing. But loyalty means nothing at all to Mercy. In fact they gave an “impactful” raise a year ago and the longer you had worked for Mercy the less you got. I want to get certified in my specialty, if I did all Mercy had to offer to help it wouldn’t even get me started on the process. The turnover is high. The good employees leave because they don’t feel valued by Mercy. Managers see the struggle but their hands are tied by higher up leadership. I have yet to see real change to improve patient care and safety. They celebrated an A+ for safety and at the same time pts are frequently waiting over 10 mins for someone to answer the call light because staff is stretched to thin. They don’t support your mental health as an employee. Nursing/healthcare have high suicide rates but Mercy isn’t even doing the minimum to reduce the rate. I am very passionate about my department, coworkers, and management… they are the only reason I have stayed so long.
