Pros

Great people work at this company despite the chaos and mismanagement. Some good perks benefits were good

Cons

Some people almost unbearable to work for, constant threats that your job can be lost. Compensation will always lead to inevitable exits to other companies

Massive changes in only a few years

Pros

Work life balance is good; never received any push back for taking time off.

Cons

When I started a few years ago, it was pretty obvious that there was massive room for advancement. Anyone who had worked here for at least 5 years was in some type of management or leadership position. Following the acquisition by a private equity firm and merger with another entity in mid-2018, that no longer appears to be the case. It is extremely difficult to transfer to another department and it is apparent that management would rather hire from outside than promote from within. There were a handful of promotions immediately following the merger (managers promoted to directors, directors promoted to VPs) but since then, most management/leadership positions have been filled from the outside. Additionally, the merger has resulted in a vast change in policies and procedures, the rollout of which has resulted in confusion, miscommunication to clients and general frustration. Finally, compensation isn't great. We are told that we are paid in line with national market averages, but Orange County, California is not average in terms of cost of living. Also, there is no formal bonus structure.

Pros

Good benefits package. Salaries seem competitive. People: the teammates I work with on a daily basis are very talented and hard working. New owners and bringing in more experienced executives and managers.

Cons

The acquisition by private equity firm and subsequent forced merger in 2018 has completely changed the company. We used to have a great start-up mentality, where everyone just wanted to work hard to help deliver a great product and keep our clients happy. However, now that the new owners have installed their folks in management, they have put an emphasis on profit and performance metrics. Teammates who used to go out of their way to help others, go the extra mile for clients, or write extra high quality software just don’t do it anymore, because it is not visible on a performance metric the owners care about, and it will cost you in other metrics. This is also causing unhealthy office politics to increase in my observation. Overall, I feel their approach will produce success for the board, investors, and executives in the short term, but I feel like a lot of people on the ground at the company are the ones paying the price right now. Though maybe we had this coming, and this will weed out the people who cannot play ball in the new system.
