STAY AWAY FROM LONG TERM CARE!

Pros

No weekends, holidays and pretty good benefits.

Cons

Poorly managed LTC department. Managers have NO medical background and make very poor decisions. They also lack training and knowledge of the LTC policies which in turn, makes it very difficult to seek assistance. Managers themselves voice frustration from the many changes from higher up (director, etc) and will many times flat out say, "I don't know". ZERO career opportunities if you are a nurse.

Pros

If you are looking for a relatively stable place to be, perhaps MetLife might be a place to go. There are some decent places in this company, they actually have a good internship program (for those looking to gain some experience, in university or perhaps entry-level). Prior to COVID the company was anti flexible/remote work...however they have finally acknowledge the 21st century and adopted hybrid arrangement. Perhaps this is one silver lining The company does have some good values, and programs to help those in need and outreach to communities around the world - Michele and team have been instrumental in leading those types of initiatives

Cons

Tons of bureaucracy and bad management, especially at middle levels. During my last year there was lots of discussion at top (including from CEO) about reducing bureaucracy and becoming more transparent. Although the top-levels of the company had good intentions, their mission as such saw little/no success. There is tons of bureaucracy and "good old boy" type of environment at the various management/VP levels. Very little accountability and a lot of bad actors, micro-managing dysfunctional leaders (and individual contributors) who are allowed to misbehave with little/no recourse. For anybody looking for a good career with long-term future, this is not your place (especially if you are in tech). Tons of technical debt and dead-end/stale projects, that you will be likely dumped on and stuck with. Run for the hills...

Pros

You get a decent amount of PTO... if they actually let you take it.

Cons

The department I worked in and the boss I worked for did not care about their employees at all. They preached work life balance but did not actually let you try to obtain work life balance. Horrible leadership which meant basically no leadership at all. If you're good at your job, they will make sure to never let you leave it.
