The Internship Experience Of My Dreams
Pros
- Everyone, no matter how "high up" they are at the company, is very willing to help with whatever question you might have. You can message anyone at any time and they will generally get back to you within the hour. - As an intern your opinions and ideas are valued. I came up with my own product and feature ideas on the side, and I was able to implement them and test them publicly. - The company culture is very open. (Almost) everything at Facebook is no secret - Mark is willing to answer any question you might have about company direction and stance at the weekly Q&As, and at any point you can ask what people are working on, and they're willing to share. - The projects you're able to work on are high impact projects more often than not. - Everyone is passionate about their work and incredibly good at what they do. I learned a crazy amount this past summer.
Cons
- The work culture is largely self-driven. There's no particular structure or strict schedule for getting work done, so if you're not self-motivated, you could fall behind without much consistent feedback for your performance. - Work-life balance can be a little unhealthy at times. There felt like there was a bit of pressure to work even while at home, because a lot of people do.
