Impact only counts if your manager says it does, and doing great work on your own initiative doesn’t mean much without that stamp. The review culture can be brutal. Boz introduced anonymous peer reviews, and managers openly encourage people to be harsh. You never know who tanked your rating. Watch out for “orphaned” projects: if something’s flailing and no manager wants to touch it, there’s usually a reason. Try to help, and you’ll likely go down with the ship. The whole “no problem is someone else’s problem” thing? Nice words, not how it works.
