Pros

I am 100% remote and I'm able to work seamlessly with the support of MM technology tools. They also live by their culture and mission. It's not lip service. They are inclusive and strive to provide their employees a great work/life balance with flexible time off and other generous benefits.

Cons

None worth mentioning at this time

Amazing Company to Align With

Pros

I recently joined Metromile a couple months ago and I honestly have nothing but positive things to say. Let me break some elements down. 1) INTERVIEW PROCESS. The initial interview process was the most outstanding, professional, thorough, and welcoming interview process I have ever had in my career. 2) TEAM. The team is fantastic - across all departments. People have made themselves available to meet and greet with me on video calls, so I do truly feel like an employee here; employees seem to be knowledgeable in their fields and love what they do; and there is a Slack channel that is heavily utilized for giving recognition to individuals across the org. 3) TRANSPARENCY. There are organized weekly All Hands meetings with most employees in attendance; there are biweekly Q&A sessions where you can submit questions anonymously and leadership doesn't back down from hard questions; and there is a Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee with regular meetings and a Slack channel - and this was already in place before 2020. 2020 hasn't been the easiest and there were layoffs, but leadership is trying to face it head on. 4) WORK HARD, PLAY HARD. The company is focused on actual data and metrics and utilization rates, not just “feelings” about things. This helps direct the work, stay focused, and create timelines for the business and product. The product is a differentiator in the industry and we really care about the customer's voice, and work hard to make customers have a positive experience with us. However, people generally do not seem overworked, there are some fun Slack channels to post on, and people have commented how much they enjoy working here (even if it is remotely). Very positive vibe. 5) PERSONALLY. My role that was laid out to me in the interview process is exactly what I’m doing today. I feel like I got exactly what I signed up for, which is great because I was and am really excited about this job. I feel like there is opportunity to grow my role, grow within the company, and grow and expand my employees. I enjoy who I am working with and what I’m doing, but I also work very reasonable hours. All these things are why I took a decent pay cut to join the Metromile team (although I would say the compensation is still definitely fair), and I do not regret that decision in the slightest. Would rate Metromile A+ all-around at my 60 day anniversary.

Cons

Only con I have at the moment is that there isn't a 401K match.

Pros

Some of the people were incredible to work with.

Cons

Metromile NEVER learns from its mistakes. They continue to start and stop the "growth engine" aka Marketing budget without actually taking a step back and understanding why they aren't getting the numbers we expect. It is very unclear if this is an insurance company or a tech company, and that confusion contributes to a culture full of conflict. They continue to promote and praise employees who just follow the status quo or are favored by management while ignoring individuals who actually get results. They also laid off some critical team members who have institutional knowledge in favor of newer hires that are compliant order takers. There are no clear career paths or room for growth. When management is asked what Metromile's vision is, the employees are told time and time again "we're working on it." It's pretty difficult to stay inspired in a workplace that isn't even sure what it wants to be when it grows up. There is also a lack of diversity in management and leadership positions.

We appreciate your comments. One of our core values is “set a round table” so it’s critical that we’re always striving to recognize & promote fairly across the company & do everything we can to improve the diversity of our team. As a startup, we aim to balance moving quickly and staying nimble with staying focused on our OKRs and long-term goals. We recognize there’s always room for improvement & have shared your feedback with the team. Wishing you all the best.
