Best reason to engage is to try to positively improve the services that your community receives.

Cons

The stereotype of there being too much "red tape" and bureaucracy that slow efficiency to a crawl is unfortunately true; what takes a week to get done in business can take two years or longer Downtown -- if it's even allowed to get done. Totally different mindset than in business.
