Pros

Great benefits including affordable health insurance, holidays off, paid sick time & vacation (more sick than vacation but part of it rolls over). Part of the FRS, and I believe there is still a pension option if you plan to stay 7-8+ years. Unionized and negotiates additional benefits almost every year. Good pay if you negotiate at the beginning when you receive an official offer - otherwise they will start you at the low end of your salary band. ~5% salary increase each year. Many dedicated employees doing good work. If you're looking to put in 20-40 hours a wee, collect a decent paycheck, then go home, it could be the place for you.

Cons

I don't recommend working here unless you're in Dade for life and looking for a solid job to pay the bills. Elected officials dictate what moves forward. Frustrating because of the inability to start up something new without a commissioner's blessing. Lots needs to be done but it's such a large bureaucracy that it's hard to get anything from paper planning to implementation. Little recognition - usually senior management gives recognition to the manager and not to staff. Very little accountability - employees can ignore requests and emails, drop the ball, etc. My experience was that the culture discourages fresh perspectives and new ideas and rewards those who operate under the status quo and don't push too hard. After ~2 years, grew very bored and felt I was learning very little with little room for growth and almost no recognition for good work. Gave 3 star review for the benefits.
