Company Politics taken to a new level!

Pros

Lots of opportunities to move around, if and when you know someone. Pension and benefits are the only think keeping most people working in the City. No other motivation or incentives.

Cons

Due to Unions and political hires, the City is no longer a great place to work. All too often you have 20-30 professional Engineers and MBAs being supervised by a high school dropout / political hire (as a favor to a commissioner or the mayor, etc.) with education and qualification waivers that has zero experience in the department or field he/she is assigned to supervise and direct. Morale is at an all-time low... Everyone who can.. has jumped ship, leaving behind the promises of a decent pension and benefits... not worth it. Union contracts were thrown out and the once promised salary steps went with them, underpaid, understaffed and underappreciated work force. No wonder it takes months to get a permit or something approved in this City of Miami...
