Pros
It's better than waiting tables? Maybe. If you're lucky enough to be hired into FSB or the School of Engineering your experience will be golden, although be prepared for resentment from other faculty.
Cons
Over the last decade faculty salaries have not kept up with the cost of living. To come close to an actual cost of living raise you need to be 'exemplary' but even then it is beneath inflation. When you put inflation and changes in benefits into the equation, I'm making less money with worse benefits than I was 10 years ago.
