Pros

8 hours of vacation/sick time monthly, 2 personal days, 2 personal observance days, 80 hours of family sick time. Good work environment.

Cons

Volatile due to budget cuts, risk of lay-off. Low pay and sometimes expected to do work outside of job description.

Pros

The people in the plant sciences are overall kind and amazing. There are exceptions, but the people love what they do and I feel lucky to be a part of the community.

Cons

MSU does not want to provide TAships to graduate students since we are more expensive than hiring a lecturer, which isn't great if you want to work at a PUI after your PhD. (It depends on the department.)
