Pros

The people in the plant sciences are overall kind and amazing. There are exceptions, but the people love what they do and I feel lucky to be a part of the community.

Cons

MSU does not want to provide TAships to graduate students since we are more expensive than hiring a lecturer, which isn't great if you want to work at a PUI after your PhD. (It depends on the department.)

Pros

- Excellent work environment with supportive and reliable supervisory - Development of fundamental lab skills and techniques (PCR, Assays, Pipetting) - Good overall pay for students seeking summer internships or part-time jobs

Cons

- lack of reliable transportation unless walking or biking - Many positions are not listed on job websites, meaning directly sending an offer to professors is your best bet
