Micro Center and I pride ourselves on promoting from within whenever possible. I encourage you to partner with your store's leadership team to address your concerns and understand their point of view. Pros

Your coworkers will likely be some of the best friends you'll meet. The employee discount is also a reason I found that a lot of people ended up staying.

Cons

Both corporate and retail management see employees only as numbers on a spreadsheet. Commission is an antiquated pay model which should be replaced by hourly for all positions regardless. The fact that it took a VP visiting our store to realize that commission rates needed to be doubled is beyond stupidity on management's part. We were also told that we made a billion dollars in revenue over the course of a period of time at a company meeting... yet we still have the same horrible internal network, POS systems, and less than spectacular pay. Also, despite being "part-time," I still had to work 10 hour shifts. To management, part-time doesn't mean shorter shifts; it means full-time shifts on fewer days. As a full time student this is extremely frustrating when I need time out of every day of the week to study. Management also over-scheduled the hell out of our department, while also wondering why everyone's commission was so low. (Spoiler alert: too many cooks spoil the broth.) That also brings me to my next point; good luck promoting to another department, because despite being told by management I would be moved to a higher-paying department, the only person who I saw get remotely close to that opportunity turned out to be taking amphetamines before every shift so he could actually hit the sales numbers. Often times when employees voiced concerns over issues similar to these, they were just told "it's just not going to happen" or similar phrases you'd hear from horror stories of bad parenting. Do better.
