Pros

Only thing is the store discount

Cons

Only way to advance and make money is to talk customers out of personal information for marketing use and sell big ticket items; favouritism at all levels.

Pros

- You can make a lot of money, some people in the same position make $40+ an hour and all you need is to prove you are good. - Managers will work with you and give you the money you deserve if they have you doing something outside of your normal job - Fairly good internal Promotion - Good Employee discount and benefits - Good Co workers for the most part who like what you like and are similar people but have diverse personalities and backgrounds - Tons of recognition when you do good and even more praise when you’re consistent - Competitions and tons of giveaways in the stores and throughout the whole company - Good HR - Overall fun place to work although it can be stressful - Awesome opportunity for trips

Cons

Front end: none honestly, easy cashier job, can get busy at times but you get commission as well. I’ve made $15 an hour in the past. And customer service is fairly easy. Some stores train both. And web orders are the best. GSA: Tons of work, to make money you have to work harder and more than every other department. I have mixed feelings about the comission structure as it penalizes you for selling some stuff that should be in your department or is in the same area. Truck is the worst. You have to come at 7 am and work for 2 hours with no sales, often found myself staying later to make up for it. The comission structure also has a higher rate for lower priced items however in my experience i found it balances out or you end up making more money selling more expensive things. And truck has to be done throughout the day so it will lower your sales and other associates will hate you if you don’t do it. Also a lot of people call out and aren’t committed in this department more than any. New attendance policy is harsh but not really enforced. And this department generally makes the least amount of money on the floor and it’s not really about selling. If you have good footwork and motivation and you know how to maneuver and maximize profit while staying in the guidelines of your job you can make up to $20 an hour consistently as I have. BYO - Best department hands down, can make a ton of money but you have to be up to date with everything, know your stuff and overall have knowledge on PC components. Systems - Pays the most, more than a lot of people with degrees if you’re good however this is the elitists of the company. I love the department but the managers are constantly coaching you and even though they want you to improve it gets stressful. You also have to make the store money to make yourself money. You have to have Margain and attachments for your comission rate to go up. It’s not just sell a computer and get paid. It’s not that simple. If that’s all you do you’re more than likely gonna find yourself demoted, so it gets stressful. Although I generally believe it is essentials that we sell it can sometimes be demoralizing to sell people stuff that they don’t “really” need when they came in for one thing. However I do believe for the majority of customers we are improving their experience. Overall I think that the job can sometimes be a lot, if you are full time open availability that usually screams, “SCHEDULE ME FOR 90 hours this PP” I’ve found myself working 6 days a week for the majority of time over 100 hours a pay period. I usually allow it and sometimes even offer because I like the job but some associates are different and working 11-9 doesn’t give you time for anything. Working 12-10 and having to be there at 7 is the worst. I am fine with my schedule but for others it’s not always okay and people often call out. Managers tend to look to the people that are consistently good and only give partial effort to the mediocre or underperforming associates. They will try to help at first and then either give up or give consequences to them. If you are good you usually have a hierarchy and managers like you better but I guess that’s a given. But if you don’t feel important or like you’re having and impact you won’t wanna try. The underpreforming stores associates suffer, looking through the reports the top associates double or sometimes triple the others income for the same job. Others will often openly talk about how much money they make. Doesn’t affect me but for some it’s like rubbing it in their face. Also everything is publicized so even if we didn’t say it it’s on a daily email. It’s all about numbers.
