Working at Micro Center is OK

Pros

Constant interaction with customers will keep your mind sharp, from always asking and answering questions. Some managerial staff actually care about how the other staff feel.

Cons

Commission rate hurts you during the slow season. Cheap computers bring in cheap customers which hurts the commission rate more. Not much encouragement besides being told to sell more if you want a raise.

Pros

-They have a good benefits package -There is a fair Amount of opportunities for promotion (in Sales, until a certain point) -There are lots of networking opportunities, with customers as well as other employees

Cons

-Management is VERY hit or miss (Some are great... Others are terrible) -Long hours, with very few holidays off -Double standards (gender wise) with treatments, taking time off, promotions, etc. -Sales department does not get raises (commission based) -Encouraged to push products with high margin for company (sometimes based more on margin than quality)

Pros

The employee discount is substantial. Just about everyone that enjoys working there enjoys it because of the discount and computers being their hobby.

Cons

Too many sales staff barking for commissions. The sales floor is flooded, absolutely flooded, with sales guys that may or may not know what the heck they are talking about. And they will get bent out of shape if you miss their commission sticker. Don't expect me, the cashier, to take extra time out searching for your sticker if you won't take extra time out to place it reasonably near a bar-code. Also the hours suck, which is true for most retail positions. You're expected to work till 10:30 or later one night (depending on when that one guy decides to leave the store) and be back the next morning at opening. And even though every schedule form I filled out from the resume to telling every manager every week that I do not work Sunday mornings, I still get scheduled Sunday mornings. No two weeks look the same. It's nuts.
