Atmel moves on to Microchip

Pros

Atmel had a very innovative culture driven by individuals scattered around the globe, but at the same time managed to drive that innovation into products like AVR, AVR32, ZigBee Wireless, pico power, crypto memory, QTouch/PTC and even to much fame maxTouch. All driven by talented engineers at grass-roots level.

Cons

Centralised Management structure into Silicon Valley can feel like a bottleneck for innovation. Stronger regional VP-levels.
