Pros

One very good thing about Microchip is that there are no layoffs. I have never seen a person getting fired in downtime. They give lot of restricted stocks and shares over the time which is really good. Also, very relaxed work environment with almost nil work pressure. You can actually have lot of fun while you are in Microchip.

Cons

Management doesn't take any risks which can be sometimes considered as con.

Pros

The culture at Microchip is one of the positives. It allows employees to be empowered to do their jobs at a high level and to make decisions that allow the company to succeed. Most of the people there work well together for the common goal of making Microchip the best it can be. The CEO communicates very well and does a lot to help out the employees. He tries to make it like a family and does a good job of it.

Cons

The HR department seems to have forgotten the guiding value "Employees are our greatest strength". I would have given the company 5 starts if it weren't for them. They let people go at the drop of a hat and before they do true due diligence. Even managers and people who have been there for a long time are not immune. Beware of HR there.

Microchip Technology Response

Thank you for your review of Microchip. We really do appreciate your feedback. As a representative of Human Resources, I would like to respond to your statement about letting people go prior to doing our due diligence. Human Resources always strives to make thoroughly-informed decisions, especially when a person’s job is at stake. In fact, it is our internal practice to make every effort to avoid terminating employees, especially when there are other options for performance management. This may appear otherwise if you do not work in HR or as part of a management team: Since we are diligent with keeping such matters confidential, the extent of our understanding may not be visible. We do, and always will, believe that Employees are our Greatest Strength! If you have concerns, please contact your HR Rep. We are always here to help, answer questions, or be a sounding-board for your ideas.

Pros

Great work/life balance company, relatively flat organization, easy access to top executive managements.

Cons

Salary is not very competitive. Limited or no yearly merit increase and bonuses despite net revenue positive every quarter over the last 20 years. Very pathetic company contributions to 401K plan. Limited upward career opportunities within the company. Perks (business class/economy premium flights, great bonuses, walled offices, etc) are reserved to management team despite company preaches employees are the greatest assets and org charts places individual contributors on top and managers at the bottom (upside down org chart).
