Good benefits package. Work with lots of very smart people, on software at scale. Great internal training programs. Casual environment.

Cons

The compensation system sets us up for internal conflict. I think this is holding us back, HR's not helping advance the state of the art.

* Good pay * Good benefits * Good work/life balance * Some good products * Lots of opportunities for growing and learning.

Cons

Microsoft is weighted down by being a big bureaucracy. Merit is measured on a set of fixed metrics ("commitments"), but these are very often set by management regardless of reality or common sense - very often these are contradictory and plain nonsense. Also, product vision is generally speaking pretty bad, and there is little innovation going on - everything is based on who you know, and decisions are often made without understanding the broader impact.
