Pros

good external brand, big events that look good to external audience

Cons

top-down structure, nepotism is rampant, not so great salaries, toxic personalities that are allowed to thrive, no investment in front line staff, support staff or younger employees, very little accountability from senior management or HR, they just hired a full time HR person last year, in my 4 years at MI I've seen over 30+ staff turn over.

Pros

The Milken Institute has been an extraordinary organization to grow my career. I have learned valuable leadership, business development, strategic planning, program management, and relationship management skills. I have also learned the finer points of advocacy, convening, and communication. I have expanded my network to key thought leaders and influencers that would have otherwise been out of reach. The organization is entrepreneurial, and as such, I have been able to carve a robust niche for my work. The Institute leadership has invested in and supported me throughout my tenure.

Cons

The centers could work more collaboratively together.

Pros

Great location, good work/life balance, mostly nice and smart people. You get the opportunity to interact with many high-level, impressive people, and the Institute looks good on a resume when you move on.

Cons

The quality staff members all eventually leave. There is a high disparity between value placed in senior and junior staff, evident in pay and promotions. Transparency and communication are clear issues, with a lot of miscommunication leading to animosity within teams and between departments. You do have the opportunity to do a bit of interesting, good work, but, at the end of the day, it’s all about Global Conference. I wish I would have trusted the negative reviews on here more before taking the position.
