Economic think tank with no PhD researchers

Pros

Same as one of the previous reviews "Reasonable retirement place for seniors..." To be specific, this is a retirement place for senior research staff.

Cons

Lack of mentorship in the research department. This is because senior research staff has no research experience, no record of publication, and none has a Ph.D. Obviously, the company no longer invests in research (but they let those who have been there long have a place to wait for retirement). The Institute is now simply a conference organizer.

Pros

The work was interesting and relevant.

Cons

The work environment was all too interesting. The new management removed the blinds from the researchers' offices so they could monitor everything. The researchers were PhD economists, mind you.

Pros

Nothing intellectually challenging as other more reputable research institute, which is important for some people. How ever, you can get busy doing grunt work like making slides, hours after hours, although no one check your charts or figures.

Cons

Since most of research institute already know what Milken Institute is about (Please refer to 'resurrection of Michael Milken' in 'American Prospect”), it is very hard to find a job in a reputable research institute after working here! There used to be an opportunity to build your research portfolio with legitimate researchers here, however, they are all gone. ('Fellows" listed on the website are people who chose to leave Milken Institute, most of which because they cannot take the stigma any more)
