It's one of those jobs where no one outside of the company really knows what you do, so it can be whatever you want it to be when you're interviewing at your next job. You'll make a ton of connections here, especially in the finance industry, and you never know how they're going to pay off in the future. I am almost ten years removed from this job, which I hated at the time, but it continues to be shockingly helpful despite the fact that I've moved into a completely different industry.

Cons

The work is boring. You're a concierge to billionaires and their companies. The company claims to be a nonprofit think tank, but really you're an events company and everything you're doing is in service to Global Conference or its sister conferences. Also, you're working for upper management for whom this is a laid back retirement job. This job is either a stepping stone or a tombstone, depending on how long you stay here.

Milken Institute's Culture is Different Than They Claim

Global platform to explore solutions to some of the world's biggest problem. International travel for those in senior positions.

Cons

Their job announcements claim that "every person at the Milken Institute is treated with respect, supported with resources and training, and exposed to a broad range of experiences." This claim could not be further from the truth. This so-called "think-tank" plays favoritism all of the time and treats employees differently depending on well they are liked by the C-suite. Employees are not supported with resources and training. Although it's supposedly a research organization, employees do not have access to leading journals and receive very little training in any professional development. Skills learned are mainly around event planning and fundraising -- substance is an after thought.
