Pros

The people at Miller are some of the nicest I've ever met. The products are exceptional, and the Miller name carries weight in the welding industry.

Cons

Originally, this was a really employee driven company. Management has become increasingly overbearing within the past year.

Pros

New hires who make it in the initial years usually end up staying there forever. The company has been in business over 85 years and has a deeply entrenched orthodoxy. ITW is making serious attempts to improve diversity and inclusion. Stable, well established product line and identity. Generous 401K matching with attractive investment choices.

Cons

Inept technical, project and operations management. What passes for acceptable management here is several notches below what I have experienced as a professional with 10+ years of experience in various industries and capacities throughout the U.S. Historically, locals tell me Miller had a reputation in Fox Valley an "aw shucks" family owned business that was very generous to their employees and the Fox Valley. In the-post Mike Weller CEO Miller era, ITW has taken over and is micro-managing and executing personnel and management policies that conflict with what long time Appleton based Miller employees have described to me. Change is extremely slow and very challenging to implement. Tread carefully and facilitate change at your own risk! In spite of ITW's attempt to implement diversity and inclusion, that effort falls far short in Appleton. I witnessed comments and personnel decisions that are troubling in this regard. There are cases of professional employees who have left in their first 90 days, but the vast majority of new hires leave in a few years.

Poor Management

Pros

Pay was ok for position. Benefits were standard.

Cons

Management at my facility was terrible. They would have ridiculous requirements for what needed to be done each night. Would constantly have us move work stations around for small changes wasting valuable time. No real leadership with any sort direction. Also, if you will be expected to donate a portion of your check to the United Way and if you tell management no, they will immediately treat you like garbage.
