Pros

I recently moved to Asheville for my job at Mission - relocating for a job is a scary prospect, but I could not be happier! Mission is a great place to work and I am so proud to say that I work here. Mission Health is a top 15 health system in the country and I can see why - they are constantly striving to be the best for our patients and community. The team that I joined is supportive and we are achieving great things together - feeling part of a team and the culture of an organization is important to me and I get that here. For an organization this size, I'm impressed with the communication - I've even attended a Ted Talk style information session presented by the CEO and I found this to be excellent - not many CEOs would take the time to let staff know what's happening and answer any question we had to throw at him. I came from an organization that kept everything "hush hush" and then all of a sudden we had huge lay-offs. I appreciate the transparency. Mission is also working towards becoming a best place to work and practice, which is something that impressed me about the organization when I was job hunting. I'm loving my job, my boss is the best, and I see lots of opportunity for my personal growth here.

Cons

The biggest con really does come from outside sources - with the environment of healthcare in th country, Mission is having to make changes at an extremely fast pace. This can sometimes become overwhelming and causes stress in the workplace, but I don't know that it is something that can be avoided.

Pros

Hands down best hospital in WNC to work and for patient care, best staff ever, love my co-workers, floor manager is good, GPTWP counsel really tries hard with the added warm and fuzzy stuff during the holidays, love pet therapy, appreciate the recent open forum Dr. Paulus is holding for nursing staff to speak up....hope he listens to them!

Cons

recently, we have felt the crunch as nurses.....Mission is tightening the reigns on money, they have to because we are forced to give out so much FREE care to these uninsured folks who don't take care of themselves, we are more burdened than ever with discharges, the tasks just seem to pile up with added pressure of patient satisfaction scores. Happy nurses+ well staffed departments=high patient satisfaction - well staffed means ensuring that each patient has an RN and CNA every single shift, especially on the higher acuity floors with total care patients and in patient falls. How can I be a good RN when I am busy doing bed baths, vital signs, bathroom help etc?
