Pros

Generous benefits, dedicated employees, superb physicians, state of the art patient care technology, and great views from most offices/patient rooms. Professional growth is encouraged, and excellent physicians provide good opportunity for exposure to latest patient care treatments.

Cons

Leadership accountability lacking severely. Very limited advancement opportunities. For current employees, all promotions are limited to no more than 5% increase in pay, regardless of current salary/wage per hour, and regardless of educational advancements achieved. This hospital is the only hospital in Asheville, i.e. no competition, therefore they can get away with paying lower than market survey rates. Unwillingness by management to increase longterm employees' pay to market rates due to 5% rule mentioned above.

Pros

Mission has a variety of nursing settings to work in. Mission is currently trying to achieve "Magnet" status, which will hopefully mean higher pay scales for the nurses. The benefits package, while not great, is still one of the best that I've seen in the area. Another good thing that Mission Hospitals encourages is professional growth. There is a program in place that will pay for health care schooling in return for time on the job. I believe its year-for-year, but am not completely sure of the details. There are several "high-demand" jobs that they will pay for you getting a degree in such as Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, etc.

Cons

The pay at Mission Hospitals for nurses is far lower than what I was getting at my former employer, Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. And although I said the benefits package was pretty good, one still must fork over one thousand dollars before any real compensation begins. This might not be so hard for a nurse or doctor, but for the average employee in, say, dietary or housekeeping, this can be a real challenge. And speaking of dietary, although the food is pretty good for a hospital, the services offered isn't so good. Often meals for patients are late, omitted or not what they ordered.

Pros

I recently moved to Asheville for my job at Mission - relocating for a job is a scary prospect, but I could not be happier! Mission is a great place to work and I am so proud to say that I work here. Mission Health is a top 15 health system in the country and I can see why - they are constantly striving to be the best for our patients and community. The team that I joined is supportive and we are achieving great things together - feeling part of a team and the culture of an organization is important to me and I get that here. For an organization this size, I'm impressed with the communication - I've even attended a Ted Talk style information session presented by the CEO and I found this to be excellent - not many CEOs would take the time to let staff know what's happening and answer any question we had to throw at him. I came from an organization that kept everything "hush hush" and then all of a sudden we had huge lay-offs. I appreciate the transparency. Mission is also working towards becoming a best place to work and practice, which is something that impressed me about the organization when I was job hunting. I'm loving my job, my boss is the best, and I see lots of opportunity for my personal growth here.

Cons

The biggest con really does come from outside sources - with the environment of healthcare in th country, Mission is having to make changes at an extremely fast pace. This can sometimes become overwhelming and causes stress in the workplace, but I don't know that it is something that can be avoided.
