Great part-time work for current or former students of MACC
Pros
Unlike at many other colleges, tutors at MACC are paid hourly to be on standby and/or assist library patrons when not actively working with students. This means that during your downtime, you're essentially being paid to sit and keep yourself quietly occupied in the middle of a library. It's a great situation to be in if you want to have more time to do homework and study (or if you've already graduated, then you could even take self-paced online courses).
Cons
This isn't really a knock on MACC itself, but rather a heads-up on how some of the students may act. For example, since tutors at MACC take both pre-scheduled and walk-in appointments, you might occasionally get a student who comes to you last-minute before a big exam and asks you to go over the content with them even though they didn't study any of it in their own time, or a student who comes to you with the bare-bones outline of an essay that's due tomorrow and asks you to help them finish it (which we can NOT do). Situations like these where students expect you to do all the work for them never feel good, because even if you do your best to help them in the capacity of a tutor, you know that they probably aren't going to achieve the results they want unless they get into the habit of being proactive with their tutoring needs.
