Pros

+ Lots of bright people around, I felt I had plenty to learn from others + good camaraderie + weak hierarchy, the ideas of junior developers get attention + socially beneficial business with considerable impact + there's openness to lateral initiatives. It's a meritocratic place. + no micro-management. My managers gave me goals to meet, not detailed instructions on how to achieve them.

Cons

- the organization is only belatedly adopting good software engineering practices.

Working on fascinating problems with excellent people. Good work atmosphere. Proud of the technologies we're making. Top management is very capable.

Cons

Management jobs are tough because of ambitious deadlines on the one hand and organizational mess on the other hand.
