Pros

Great Business...makes more money by accident than on purpose. Huge investment dollars dumped into polishing the aging infrastructural. Could certainly be a thriving Business if a major restructuring of management was done.

Cons

GE didn't leave their best and brightest in charge then pull the plug on this Business. The new owners used the management left behind by GE and like a swarm of locust they ate the farmers field all the while blaming the crop failure on the people that grew it. It has become more of a Monarchy than a Business with nepotism insuring that nothing changes. Barely out of Bankruptcy and our debt is again over a billion. Skill sets are ignored with the new management friends and family plan.

Pros

Great people, who on a personal level, are always willing to help. There is recognition of the changes that are needed. Some senior management change has been made.

Cons

They are under significant financial pressure from market overcapacity as well as the strong dollar. This has hurt sales/margin and has permitted competitors to take share. These factors also hamper new product introduction. See their 3rd Q 15 report. More organizational change is needed. This will require bold action.

Pros

This is the birth place of silicone products. The Waterford, NY facility was the first one of its kind manufacturing plants that started back in the 40s under the GE umbrella so there is a lot of history here. There are folks that are now retiring after 40+ years of service with as many as 3 generation of family service. Company is also investing in projects to grow the business despite weak financial situation.

Cons

With all that said, things started to decline when GE sold the business to Apollo in 2007, who are just a bunch of investors that know nothing about chemical manufacturing. The union here is too strong for it own good. There are some really good operations folks but most of them are just there to milk the company. There is so much waste at the company with the biggest one being time...do minimum during regular time so overtime can be justified. Non-except group is not much better with most folks doing bare minimum to keep things moving. With last year being the worst in the history of the company, I am not sure where this is heading.
