Pros

Morgan Stanley's wealth management business is an incredible platform that stands head and shoulders above its peers, with bright minds providing insightful, well-informed and executable guidance and thought leadership. If given the opportunity, high-level performers can be in a position to really shine and exhibit the type of service, expertise, and quality of advice the firm is known for and has built a stellar reputation on.

Cons

The opportunities for high-level performers, particularly at the mid-level stage, to display their expertise, capabilities and really add even more value to the business can be few and far between, especially for employees who don't naturally fit the mold and personality that could be a bit more old-school and dated (less a meritocracy, more a "popularity" contest). Morgan Stanley's efforts in ESG and diversity and inclusion have been remarkable and there has been significant progress, but there's still a long way to go (this is not just specific to the firm, but for the industry as a whole).

Pros

I've been in financial services for nearly 30 years and have worked at three of the most prominent wealth management firms in the US. Morgan Stanley is a very good place to be, especially right now with challenging public markets. MS is a leader in alternative investments which will flow downstream to more and more investors.

Cons

Very big firm and easy to be distracted in all of the internal emails and management focuses. Getting more efficient with phone support since we can rate virtually anyone we talk with after the call. So everyone is incentivized to get it right the first time. In my opinion, branch management is stretched thin so challenging at time to get the support needed.

Pros

There are a lot of kind people in the firm. They value your voice, opinion and feedback. It's the first place I worked where work family balance really does exist. They make sure people take their vacation time. It's almost mandatory and they really do value that family comes first.

Cons

You must be good with constant change, because things change often. Reorganizations happen just about every 4 years, roles shift and day to day activity can shift at any given time and you must be good at corporate politics to survive.
