Pros

Excellent Research and Investment Bank. Trading floors are full of very talented people.

Cons

The management at the Regional Level is weak. Full of empty suits who are looking for ways to protect their jobs rather than grow the business. They bring absolutely no value to the relationships that I have with my clients. I hear that they paid some recruit over $5 million to join us and he/she only produced around $400,000 in the first year. What a waste of money!!! As a shareholder I an angry. This is money that I could have used for marketing and sales support

Pros

It was a paycheck. Period.

Cons

The corporate culture is abominal. MS is the most anti meritocratic house on the Street. If you are in a non revenue cost center, God help you; you're percieved as nothing more that overhead. Management works 24 X 7 to offshore and outsource. Career development and training are non existent. If you don't have a "rabbi", you might as well get your resume on monster.com as your days are numbered.

Pros

Morgan Stanley is a reputable firm with a strong management team. They offer excellent opportunities for career development including tuition reimbursement, extensive learning programs, job rotation, etc.

Cons

Corporate politics and personal agendas sometimes impede projects from moving forward. Functionalization efforts to increase efficiency have hindered communication resulting in "silos", or departments that tend to work independently of each other. Internal growth is heavily promoted and supported however, individuals "climbing the ladder" often find themselves falling significantly behind market value in terms of overall compensation.
