I can only speak of my own experience. The team I was in had micro-managing managers, mandatory face time, and hired people who were obviously overqualified for the job itself. The job was not challenging for many and could have been done in maybe 1 hour for some, yet everyone was required to stay and pretend busy. Some managers had an easier life than others solely because of their relationship with senior managers, not because of their ability to perform. It's expected that middle to back office roles are less demanding, still, good people should be rewarded, and work-life balances should be promised if possible. Unfortunaly neither happened during my time there.
