Pros

Its a big company with great benefits. The 401k retirement plan really stands out. You get to see the products made in just about any grocery store, so the brand is easily recognizable. Easy Job, so easy I never once used the degree I earned for this position.

Cons

Upper management was terrible. I was rudely put down and spoken down to by upper management, mainly HR, because I made decisions they didn't like. Nepotism runs rampant. Retaliation is Common. Gossip spreads like wildfire. Employees are leaving in droves, they all complain about management. Many people are over worked. Supervisors like to pawn off their work to other departments because they don't want to sit and do the training with contractors. Shady Business practices. Extremely disconnected from the headquarters in Chicago. Many times, I was left waiting for project approvals because purchasers in Chicago would only respond by email. Phone calls were never answered.

Pros

Office is centrally located. Depending on departments there is high caliber performers who have created and implemented great processes.

Cons

New owners not focus on people only profits. After cutting 40 percent of their corporate office without engaging all management, they have destroyed trust and now have to backtrack and rebuild relationships with those behind. Not a good environment to work in those conditions. Those trying to build diversity and inclusion programs, now disrupted and put on mute for now. Culture is your people and if you don’t focus on that first, it’s going to be a tough ride to growth.

Pros

A once proud and iconic brand, organized and managed as a family company with a family culture has fallen victim to the jaws of another corporate raider that places numbers above people. The new owners from SCI operate from an archaic business model, unaware of the entire concept of triple bottom line (TBL) or the three “P’s”: People, Planet, and Prosperity. The new management might believe they understand some basic principles of corporate finance, but like locusts who consume valuable resources for short-term gain, their model in unsustainable. Those left behind to cleanup the mess will come to understand this and bail in short order. Let's just hope the last one out the door remembers to turn out the lights...

Cons

No incentives for mutual success.
