Pros

This company is truly dedicated to the shared values of Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, Excellence, Collaboration, and Kindness. This is one of the things that I noticed when I first started here and remains true now. I have been working at MultiCare overall for 9 months. 6 as a contractor and 3 as a full-time employee for reference. Despite being an organization spread out over the Pacific Northwest with 20,000 employees and 10,000 contractors you still feel like you work in a very warm and friendly small company. I am an entry level employee and I find that this company has provided me so many opportunities for growth professional and interpersonally. This company is growing fast and as such that brings so many opportunities to learn new skill as well as work on projects that most people do not get to work on. For example, due to the growth of the company I get to work on technologies not only that are already developed but ones from the very start to end. I get to build and design the infrastructure that will support the organizations rapid growth. That is valuable experience that you will not find at other companies. There's even more that I love about this company. My entire team is so supportive and wonderful. As a team we get to tackle problems together that feel so big but together are able to get it done and it feels incredible. The projects you get to work on are also so different. In one day I worked on projects that spanned multiple domains from Chaplain Services, Finance, and even clinical work that helps doctors provide care that positively impacts the lives of our patients. You think a hospital is all clinical but the services a hospital provides spans multiple industries so you will never get bored. In that work you get to partner with other teams and build professional networks that are more valuable because they contain a variety of professionals from multiple industries. Truly, this company is an experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants to help others and be a part of an organizations that values the things you value.

Cons

While there are a lot of positives there are also some cons which I don't really see as impediments as much as they are only noticeable when you think hard about them. You find that things take a little longer when it comes to large projects or decision making that can be frustrating at times. You are given a lot of autonomy, however, you do feel like nobody is allowed to make decisions without having to always consult who they report to which can feel like a big impediment when its something small or a huge sigh of relief when its important. So good luck trying to decide on something that involves multiple people without any direct reports underneath them. Things that impact anything outside the scope of your daily operational tasks also will need a consultation from someone above you too even if it seems arbitrary. That annoys me the most because I feel that sometimes we can just make a choice and be okay that there are consequences regardless. I feel that if you consider all the choices and their impacts you should be allowed to decide on what to do if your paid to do it. All of these things just add time on to everything and you will almost always have to give whatever you think the length of time it will take to get done and add a week or more to it because of this. The more people working on it just means the longer you will be working on it. It is also very apparent that each team is unique from each other. That manifests in different ways but I notice it most in the sense of urgency each team may have when responding to emails or addressing things of concern. It can be frustrating when your team is very high performing or very considerate of others' time and you have to interact with teams who take their time doing things. The last con I can think of is senior leadership or executive leadership. They do a great job of sending out weekly communications and doing their best to provide insight into what is going on but I still don't know that anyone knows what they even do. I personally think they're like an enigmatic collection of people who play musical chairs up behind the big wooden door thats locked. They messages they send are great but people want to know what they do. Like what does your day look like? How do they weight certain factors when they make decisions? We are in financial recovery right now and people are getting fired and instead of just telling us whats the most important thing to them when deciding on who to lay off. Or deciding the reason they bought a hospital. Hell I'd even like to know what the least important factor when choosing the menu at the hospitals. Like come on, do you see a blue black dress or a gold and white dress the people wanna know. Thats what makes us feel better. Not an apology or an explanation of how hard times are. That doesn't make us feel better it makes you feel better. We don't need to sympathize with you and understand that the choices are hard for you to make. We wanna know the order jobs are getting chopped. Even if we knew we were next in line because our job was valued less that is more valuable than understanding how tough it has to be that you had to choose to fire people. Come on. You gotta think about how people are perceiving it. Save us the stress of wondering by being upfront. If I knew I was next, I could make the most of what I had here and have the choice to leave either early on my own terms or work until you laid me off. I need to have the choice it shouldn't be yours. That is how you should approach it. Empower us by giving us the ability to have the same line of sight y'all have so we can choose for ourselves. Even if in the end we don't get laid off it would be great to know that the company allowed us to consider the factors that are most important to us and then you can feel better about how hard it was for you to do what you have to do.
