Pros

It is a very fast paced company where there's never lack of work to do. Management has been for the most part very open and try to be transparent. NBC Universal is a GE company, so there are a lot of GE philiosphies inherent, but it is also very different from GE, due to nature of the media business. It's hard to six sigma news or media content as much as you could airplane engines. In addition, if you don't like working for NBC Universal, you can always move to a different GE company, fairly easily. It's such a huge company, you're bound to find a role you like. Being a thought leader is emphacized, and I believe we have a very open community type of feeling amonst the employees, which is encouraging.

Cons

It's very chaotic, and I'm not sure if it is something that can change due to the nature of the business. Compensation, is not that high, as far as I know. Also, every year, we get automatic 3-5% raise, regardless of our performance. I read that Jack Welch used to do 10-80-10 rule where they compensated the top 10% with much higher raise, but honestly, I'm not sure if this is happening. I worked my ass off, yet I got the same raise as other jackasses who don't work nearly as much. Also there is absolutly no bonus, other than occasional "thank you" gift cards you get, which is more like $50-$500, and you are not getting these that often, unless you work for someone who likes giving those away. Leadership is generally competant, and has good mindset, but I feel that sometimes it's just mere talk than anything else. In our IT organization, we are going through a huge change, but the light at end of the tunnel seems a little too far away.

Pros

- some fun employee engagement events - but not much

Cons

- performative DEI (as with most corporate companies) - low pay - toxic work environment, HR only there to protect the company and their executives - they promote 'yes' people and people that won't question the system - billion dollar company and they pay coordinators $60k in LA & NYC - terrible about advancement opportunities

Pros

Like any company, you’ll meet a handful of decent people along the way.

Cons

Toxicity starts at the top and trickles all the way down. If you don’t drink the kool-aid or aren’t a favorite of leadership do not expect to get promoted. Top heavy organization where employees never get promoted. Expect to be in a mid-level role for years on end with no growth opportunity. If you want growth you’ll have to go elsewhere. No career development whatsoever, don’t believe what they advertise about themselves on LinkedIn, it’s all smoke in mirrors. Hypocrisy at its finest.
