Nexon M Questionable Ethics, Questionable Practices

Pros

Nexon M (Emeryville, Ca) has an open office layout in an historic building. The grounds around the building are heavy with flowers (which is great).

Cons

Don't get brainwashed by their constant speeches about promoting from within or diversity that they're struggling to foster. Many teams are broken up into a dysfunctional pod structure that was mandated in order to IMPROVE the many communication failures that plagues the marketing teams. This structure has hindered cultural growth and collaboration between teams has all but vanished. Management, and more importantly, the HR team (which is dominated by nothing but Gree hires...can we say nepotism much?) routinely excludes others from company events, sponsored happy hours or when someone leaves and the company covers the farewell party. Due to this, some teams have no problem flaunting their egos and exclaiming how important they are despite little in the way of contribution coming from them. Turnover is horrendous here and I've never seen a company lose soo many people in just a few months. Do yourself a favor, work for any one of the multitude of bay area gaming companies and give Nexon M a pass.

Pros

There are some great people who work there who are industry veterans that can pass on great knowledge. I started off loving the people and team that I worked for.

Cons

The only people getting promotions are men, I've seen women leave or be gradually forced out due to the heavy workload and politics. There isn't good growth for most employees and many departments don't have growth tracks. Upper management needs to improve their dialogue with the rest of the company and not sugar coat issues. It'd have been great to have them come to an all hands with plans on how things can be improved and fixed that all departments can act on. Nexon Korea is also flexing their power and starting to take over processes and influence games acquired, and I know that this has disheartened certain employees. There is also obvious favoritism from Leadership for certain departments over others.

In fact, we are proud of our recent accomplishment of increasing our number of female engineers to more than double the industry average. We are committed to fostering a diverse, merit-based work environment.
