Pros

Average pay for the area (so not bad - although not good either) Very good benefits i.e. healthcare and 401k matching. The No1 reason to remain with the company. Slightly flexible working hours at some locations.

Cons

Leadership can be totally disconnected from reality. The CEO tries to connect with the workers but fails to appreciate the many issues with those in the layers between himself and non-management workers. Average pay for the area - it really could be better. Benefits only help so much. A huge reluctance to allow much if any telecommuting work. A total lack of relevant training and investment in continued education. The system in place is literally unusable. A company that seems happy to change pay reviews on a whim costing employees many hundreds of dollars. A drop in the ocean for a company that can afford 50c per share bonus dividends. A big hit for many employees though. No defined (or even possible) career path for most positions without moving out of state. A very weird and hugely unfair yearly bonus system. Yearly bonus are a great idea but need to be a little more transparent. An 'openness' policy that simply doesn't work. It's great to have so many levels of people you can approach with an issue. Not so great when any problems are ignored or you're simply dismissed as irrelevant. A company 'culture' that is steadily becoming more archaic as opposed to embracing change and new, effective work methodology. A huge disconnect between head office and the individual portals.

Pros

Learned a lot about software development and was a springboard for my career, liked working with state agencies on a variety of interesting projects, cool downtown office space, good benefits, nice to have all federal holidays off.

Cons

The QA process was non existent and left the PM's to manage angry clients which was frustrating, it seemed like the folks in Kansas were reaping all the monetary benefits of the hard work at the state portals, our GM had us work furiously to get a "free to the state" online business registration application live so she could get a $50k bonus for getting the state to agree to a $1 transaction fee increase.
