Pros

The best place to get many experiences in government science and many career paths.

Cons

However the culture at the NIH is very limiting and confining, leading to stifled creativity and limited ability for junior scientists to move up the totem pole.

Pros

NIH has one of the largest medical research centers in the world and the ability to train students in a diversity of applications.

Cons

The biggest con is that it has a government feel to it, things can be very bureaucratic. For students, sometimes it is hard to get connected to certain opportunities that have good structure to them.

Pros

Funding is not an issue, and so you have a freedome to conduct research without worrying to get a grant or not. This place is highly competitive.

Cons

My PI is excellent. But i do know some PI who expects fellows to work overtimes, such as weekend.
