Pros

No longer many -- unless you are in desperation of working on EVs

Cons

The company seems pretty lost going in circles aimlessly changing directions on almost a daily basis. US location has lost nearly all mid- to senior management and large number of personnel along with it in less than a year. Mothership is applying increasing amounts of pressure to solve all the damage over last 4 years at once but without providing any clear direction. Problems of past, present and future projects are all attempted to be figured out all at once in random order. Perpetual start-up style mode means a free-for-all: lack of clear requirements, duplicated efforts by multiple teams, architectural holes, decisions are made by wrong teams, those that don't have expertise, or no decisions made at all. Unclear constraints lead to projects worked on by entire teams for many months then completely thrown away. Then those team can be deemed ineffective or redundant and get cut. Efforts to make forward progress made by any team is usually thwarted by someone key leaving and/or task being moved to China. Further, despite this being a public company, financial situation is kept opaque to employees.

Pros

The base pay is really good and pretty much beats any FAANG out there (I believe they did it to lure people from FAANG and hence lot of people from Apple work at NIO). But their stocks are peanuts so total comp is pretty much just the base pay. Free food, but the quality went down in recent months for cost cutting. And lesser and lesser snacks/drinks for the same reason too. Work was great too but not anymore due to most projects being transferred to China.

Cons

Its true that the company is going through hard times but that still would have been ok if the US management was honest and great. The Managing Director doesn't know how to talk but still talks for 60 mins every all hands by repeating the same 5 min lecture. The directors were basically Staff Engineers from other EV companies and the VPs were 1st level managers. But once they joined NIO, they got a huge title hike but ended up being clueless as to what and how to manage the organization. Most of them joined NIO to get up the management ladder but in turn screwed up the whole company with their in competencies.
