Pros

Good health insurance. No layoffs. Free soup and crackers. It is like working in an office in the 1950's. Take that how you will

Cons

No room for advancement. Unless you are a white male. Then they find a higher paying job for you. No transparency with managment or administration. Slow to change policies which could greatly make a better workplace. They burn good employees out. Oh and don't get sick!

Attitude is key

Pros

If you are a hard worker and limit complaints you will do fine. Negativity is bred. If you maintain a positive outlook and don't listen the complainers then you will be successful. Management looks for people with positive attitudes and even though there is a perception that people that brown nose succeed I have not witnessed that. Most of the people (I say most because there are always favorites) that have been moved up the rankings over the past year or so seem to deserve it. The employees under them haven't complained much and seem receptive to have a fresher, new crop of supervisors. You always have stragglers who moan and groan over people being promoted. These are typically the people who are stuck in there ways, afraid to change and do the bare minimum.

Cons

Sometimes focus is on the negative. As new supervisors come in I think this is getting better. Supervisors are urged to focus on the positive, however, they are slow to change if they've been around a while.

Pros

Ever notice how many people pick 'free soup' as a pro for working at this coal mine? Potential employees, please consider that before making free soup the crux of your career..

Cons

When companies are on their way down the toilet, they cut benefits, cut pay, restructure job classifications. Sound like NJM?
