Pros

401k is good and insurance is ok

Cons

1. Some managers and employees have so much attitudes and being disrespectful. 2. Not well organized and does NOT plan things well, always want stuff in the last minute and want it right away like you have magic. 3. Regular works cannot be done on a regular basis because you need to fix for what other people have done wrong on the same thing over and over again. 4. Cannot take a personal day off without pay, YES, even without pay! This Manager forces you to use your vacation or sick leave. Can't even use at time when You want it to ?! So ridiculous! 5.Hourly employees only have 3 days sick leave for entire year, if unluckily get sick often, then gotta to use vacation days. 6. This Manager is never gonna let you transfer to other location or other job opportunity unless you are applying for a management level position. Cannot be transferring because other location is close to home? Or simply just want a total different position? I don't think anyone will know better about what I really want and good for me except for myself. Eventually people have to leave the company. I'm pretty sure this does not happen to all NOV though, this manager just make NOV looks so bad!!!

Pros

Good starting point for fresh-outs and few years of experience people. In general: good work environment, laid back culture, conscientious about work/personal life balance. If you have the connections with management, sure you'll have a good career in NOV. Job security.

Cons

Limited career opportunity, even though it's a very large company, there's almost no cross divisional transfers. Lack of an objective performance evaluation system to promote the most capable personnel. Many people get promoted/given opportunity based on how the bosses like them (subjective). Salary all over the place, depends on employee's negotiation skills and leverage position. Average salary lower than industry's. Inefficient, don't know how to fix root cause's problem, everything wants to be solved with money, either increasing headcount or buying competitors. Falling behind the competition in the long run. There's a complete lack of synergy among all the divisions. Too much politics in the everyday work.

Pros

NOV has a lot of very independent departments. The department I work is really good at recognizing, developing, and rewarding engineering talent. We produce some of the best equipment in the world and everyone in the industry recognizes the name and usually says 'oh, that's a really good company' when I tell them where I work. Work life balance is OK The work is very interesting. In 2009 when everybody was in a downturn NOV had the money to develop new products so when in 2010 the market picked back up we were in a great position. There is always money to develop very cool expensive products. Benefits are great. For salaried employees bonus plan is great, although overtime pay would be better.

Cons

NOV has a lot of very independent departments. I can be hard to know what is going on in the rest of the company if you don't try to meet others. There are some politics that have to be played but it is not nearly as bad as some large companies.
