Pros

NOV is a solid company, and I do not fear lay-offs as one might somewhere else. They offer a good benefit package, and seem to be fair when it comes to employees personal needs. I don't feel that we are working under a microscope, as it seems we are trusted to do our jobs.

Cons

Leadership does not seem to be strong enough, and communication is not good between senior management and the "workers" that need direction. It seems that some management positions are filled with people that don't have a clue about this business or how it should be handled. More promotion from within should be done.

Pros

National Oilwell Varco is a large, multi-national company with locations world-wide! As such, they are very stable an offer lots of opportunities for growth. In the realm of oilfield service providers, they are quite competitive with the other "players" in the same realm. Here are some of the biggest pluses: An above average benefits package Job stability A huge umbrella with lots of career opportunities at other company's under the umbrella A decent bonus package A flexible work schedule Allowed time off when needed for family

Cons

As a two-edged sword, because NOV is a very large, multi-national company that has gobbled up others along the way, they now exist as a bunch of dis-jointed business groups that do not co-exist well with each other! There are way too many business processes & business tools that have been allowed to remain after acquisitions until now there is a big conglomeration of tools that don't communicate with each other & a bunch of non-working or non-existent processes. Also, management still lives too far in the past of the "good old boy" oil patch working era, still wanting to do things the same way they've always done them because that's the way they've always done them! That philosophy doesn't cut it in this day & age. Also, management needs to take a very, VERY hard look at salaries as they are not inline with the competition. Too much work & not enough reward make for an unpleasant working relationship! Major cons are: Poor communication practices Promotions to unworthy employees Pay NOT COMPETITIVE No defined career paths
