Pros

4-day work week (Friday’s off) continued from old company (RBA group). Very relaxed and fun office. Happy hours and extracurricular activities with the company. Most of the engineers are young so everyone gets along and relates to each other. NV5 ranks high on ENR top design firms.

Cons

NV5 is the new branded company .. it is a growing publicly traded company, similar to the WSP’s and AECOM’s but with very different verticals (MECH, electrical, etc.) and more present out west and south west. In NY office raises are very low compared to cost of living and the bigger company NV5 gives standard raises based on the nation-wide average, which is far below what the average wage increase in NYC is. Also salaries are negotiated with clients likes NYCDOT which does not approve of anything higher than the average. The work NV5 gets in NYC office isn’t the most challenging or interesting.

Pros

The only pro was very competitive salary.

Cons

They say that they want suggestions for improvement yet they resist and suffocate every step of the way. Management by bullying and intimidation. Extremely poor people management skills. More concerned about the value of stock than value of employees.

Pros

The people in my particular office are good, talented people.

Cons

It's not that NV5 is too focused on the bottom line, they are only focused on the bottom line. They treat employees as expendable resources and squeeze them financially to a level that goes far beyond the ethical gray area. They do this by by being extremely tight with raises, bonuses, and promotions (I have not received a bonus since my company was acquired by NV5 over two years ago). While individual offices can vary dramatically within the company, the behavior of upper management sends a clear message to all the people doing the work: "You are replaceable. Do not expect to be treated as if you are valued. Fall in line, or quit". I will be doing the latter.
